Istron
An idyllic little village located in one of the most beautiful areas on the north coast of Crete.
This village has managed to preserve much of its original identity, the only difference being that the source of income is now tourism instead of fishery. However, it has not yet been affected by mass tourism as there are only a few hotels, apartment complexes and super markets in Istron but plenty of those typical Cretan taverns of which the owner always says that his food is better than that of his neighboring restaurant. The most beautiful aspect of Istron is without a doubt its breathtaking coastline with gorgeous little coves and beaches. If you opt for Istron as your holiday destination than you are in an excellent position to visit nearby Agios Nikolaos and Ierapetra (the most southern town of Europe) and the beautiful Lassithi plateau, which is ideal for biking and hiking.
