Folclore Museum of Sitia

The Folklore Museum of Sitia was established in 1975, by the Development Committee of Sitia.
The exhibits of the Museum are donations from inhabitants of the district of Sitia and from the town of Sitia. They are made from all natural materials such as silk, cotton and wool. They date from the second half of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century. The exhibits are displayed according to their use:

Farming tools and equipment: 1900-1930 (the harrow, plough, sifter, spades and hoes.)
Household Ware: 1900-1930 (the hand mill, an iron, little lanterns, bowls, glasses, plates, jugs etc.)
Office Accessories:1900-1920 (ink wells, blotting paper, pens, and pen boxes).
Furniture: 1897-1920 (Dresser, couch, beds, mirrors, dressing table, chests, desks etc.)
Wall Hangings: 1910-1930 (hand-made from cocoons of raw silk, and from cotton and silk threads)
Weavings: 1910 (under blankets and heavier outer blankets, rugs, bags and knapsacks made from wool and cotton thread, silken sheets, cotton and silk towels).
Clothing:1910-1930 (the traditional clothing of the Cretan farmer and farmer's wife. Nightdresses, capes and coats).
Curtains (made of cotton and linen with embroideries)
Coin Collection:1990-1975 ( the collection consists of coins and notes of Greece).
